Buenos días! Hoy os traigo un DIY de los que no se hacen en un ratito, pero que merecen la pena. Quería una mesa de centro especial y práctica, y esta lo tiene todo, además de un montón de espacio para almacenar libros, iPads, mandos a distancia y todo lo que nos gusta tener a mano cuando estamos tirados en el sofá. Yo la he hecho con cajas antiguas de fruta, así que además es un proyecto de reciclaje, pero si no tenéis antiguas también lo podéis hacer con cajas nuevas, que las venden en cualquier tienda de decoración y os van a ahorrar mucho tiempo de limpiar y lijar, aunque claro, no tienen el mismo encanto!
Good morning! Today I'm showing you a time consuming DIY, but it's worth every minute. I wanted a special and useful coffee table, and this one has it all, apart from a lot of storage space to keep books, iPads, remotes and all you want handy when you are lying on the couch. I've made it with old fruit crates, so it is also a recycling project, but if you don't have old ones you can also make it with new ones, available at decor stores, which will save you a lot of cleaning and sanding time, but of course it's not that charming!
Necesitas / You need:
- 4 cajas de madera / 4 fruit crates
- Lija (y/o lijadora eléctrica) / Sandpaper (and/or sander)
- Cera para madera / Furniture wax
- Trapo y cepillo / Cloth and brush
- Tinte y brocha (opcionales) / Wood dye and brush (optional)
- Taladro / Drill
- 8 tornillos y tuercas / 8 screws
- Lápiz / Pencil
- Papel protector para el suelo / Paper to protect the floor
1. Antes de empezar cubre el suelo con papel, o hazlo fuera de casa. Lija las cajas para alisar la superficie / Cover the floor with paper before you start or go outside. Sand the crates to even the surface
2. Si es necesario utiliza una lijadora para ahorrar tiempo / If necessary, use a sander to save time
3. Puedes igualar o intensificar el color de la madera con un tinte / You can use a wood dye to get matching colors
4. Espera 2 horas a que seque y aplica la cera con un paño / Let it dry for 2 hours and apply the wax with a cloth
5. Deja secar y cepilla la superficia para sacarle brillo / Let it dry and brush the surface to make it shinny
6. Decide la posición de las cajas / Decide the crates arrangement
7. Haz 2 agujeros en la primera caja, por los puntos que quieras unirla a la siguiente. Make 2 holes on the first crate, where you want to join it to the second one.
8. Vuelve a colocar la primera caja en su sitio y marca la posición de los agujeros de la segunda / Put the first crate back to its place and mark the holes position on the second box.
9. Haz los 2 agujeros marcados en la segunda caja y otros 2 dónde quieras unirla a la tercera. Vuelve a ponerla en su sitio, marca los agujeros de la tercera. Repite con la tercera, la cuarta y vuelve a la primera, hasta tener 4 agujeros en cada caja. / Make the 2 holes you marked on the second crate, and 2 more where you want to join it to the third one. Put it back in its place and mark the holes on the third crate. Repeat with the third, the fourth and go back to the first crate, until you have 4 holes on each crate.
10. Une las cajas con los tornillos y tuercas / Join the crates with the screws
11. En el hueco del centro puedes poner otra caja, una planta alta o incluso una sombrilla si pones la mesa en el jardín / Use the hole in the middle to fit another box, a high plant or even an umbrella if you place it in the garden
A disfrutar de mesa nueva ! ! ! / Enjoy your new table ! ! !
Pd: También le podéis poner un cristal encima, que es mucho más práctico ;)
P.S. You can also put a glass on top, that makes it much more practical ;)
