How to style a face mask

By Sugar Lane - Friday, July 10, 2020

Good morning! How is your Summer going? I hope you are enjoying a little after so many months at home. I know face masks have become part of our daily outfits during this new normal life, so today's post is going to be about them.

First things first, I hope you are all being responsible and taking all necessary precautions to stop the virus. Face masks might be this Summer's most trendy accessory, but we should not forget they are much more than that, so it is really important to wear them whenever we are in a space with more people. It should cover your mouth and nose, wearing it on your neck, chin or wrist will not really help. Wear it to protect yourself, but also to show respect for everybody else.

Medical disposable face masks are the best option for a lot of professional collectives, but having to wear several of them a day is not a sustainable option, and moreover, if you have sensitive skin like mine, there are different options. At the beginning of the pandemic I made my own washable cotton masks, but when the weather got warmer I changed cotton for silk, which feels lighter and fresh, but I always make them with a pocket to put a filter inside.

Having said that, and always putting health first, we also want to look good! Something that wearing a mask might sound like a difficult task, but we can make it possible! So here is some inspiration to wear your mask in style, and also some brands that are making beautiful design!

  3. What fun ideas! I've never thought of a mask as being part of an outfit before but you have shown that so well here! We don't have any community transmission in our state so they haven't recommended masks at all - our last case, like the handful of cases before it, was from someone flying into the state and they were in quarantine. Now that there has been an outbreak in another state though they are recommending masks there and I think they might end up recommending them for all around Australia. Who knows though, things change so often!

Hope you have a nice weekend planned ahead of you! :)
