Khardungla Pass & Nubra Valley

Un día mas en la carretera, esta vez de camino al Valle Nubra y el Desierto de Ladakh, pasando por Khardungla Pass, la carretera mas alta del mundo, a 5.602 metros de altitud. Respirar no era fácil, pero parece que Archana y yo sobrevivimos!

One more day on the road, this time on our way to Nubra Valley and the desert of Ladakh, through Khardungla Pass, the highest motorable road in the World, at 18,380. Breathing wasn't easy, but Archana and I could handle it!

Leh Ladakh

Tras dos días en carretera (o debería decir camino?) llegamos a Leh, antigua capital del reino de Ladakh, en la zona fronteriza de China y Tibet. La ciudad está construida sobre una ladera y presidida por el Palacio en ruinas, con unas vistas espectaculares al valle del Indo y los Himalayas. A unos pocos kilometros se encuentran el monasterio de Hemis, famoso por su festival, y el de Thiksey, con una arquitectura típica de la zona.

After two days on the road we finally reached Leh, the old capital of the kingdom of Ladakh, next to the China and Tibet borders. On top of the city is the old Palace, with amazing view to the Indus valley and the Himalayas. And a few kilometres away you can find Hemis monastery, with its famous festival, and Thiksey monastery, with a lovely ladakhi architecture.

Agosto en Madrid

Buenos días! Si, ya sé que es un poco tarde, pero el "juernes" se me fue de las manos... Hoy hago un break y dejo a un lado mi viaje a la India para contaros, si estáis por la capital, un evento con muy buena pinta y al que tengo muchas ganas de asistir para conocer a algunas bloggers que sigo desde hace tiempo.

Además el encuentro tendrá lugar en las Rozas Village, uno de mis sitios de compras favoritos ya que adoro los espacios al aire libre, y los descuentos mas todavía!!! De hecho seguro que me habéis visto por aquí en algún que otro post. El caso es que este lugar tiene un encanto espacial en las tardes de verano gracias a la terracita y las actividades que organizan, y este año mucho más gracias a la decoración de la Peseta.

Good morning! Yes, I know it's a little bit late, but last night I lost track of the time... Today I take a break from my indian trip to tell you about a blogger event I'll attend next week. I can't wait to meet some of the bloggers I've been following for a long time.

In case you are in Madrid, I recommend a visit to Las Rozas Village, a lovely open air fashion outlet with amazing discounts and lots of activities during summer evenings.

Kargil to Leh

Tras una noche en Kargil, en el hotel mas ecléctico que he estado hasta la fecha, continuamos el viaje hasta Leh Ladakh, la zona budista del norte de la India donde los monjes viven en monasterios perdidos en las montañas y los banderines de colores decoran el cielo.

After a night in Kargil, at the most eclectic hotel ever, we continue the tripto Leh Ladakh, the budist part of North India, where the monks live in far away mountains monasteries and thousands of colorful flags decorate the skies.

On the road to Kargil

Tras nuestra estancia en Srinagar toca emprender ruta hacia Kargil, una zona con mucha presencia militar ya que estuvo en guerra en el 99 porque el ejército de Pakistán invadió el territorio indio. El camino es largo, duro y peligroso, pero el paisaje merece la pena.

After a couple of days in Srinagar it's time to start the route to Kargil, an area controlled by the army, which held a war with Pakistan in 1999 due to an invasion. The road is long and dangerous, but the landscape view is worth it.

Mughal Gardens

Además de lagos, Srinagar tiene varios jardines mogoles con sus características fuentes, y el templo Shankaracharya en lo alto de una colina con vistas a toda la ciudad. En el templo dedicado a Lord Shiva desde el año 200 a.C. no se permiten cámaras ni teléfonos, y aunque se permitiesen con lo que quema el suelo a mí no se me hubiese ocurrido pararme a hacer ninguna foto... Sin embargo de los jardines si que os puedo enseñar imágenes, sobre todo de los niños que van de excursión con sus colegios a pasar el día de picnic!

Apart from lakes, Srinagar is full of mughal gardens with its typical fountains, and the Shankaracharya mandir atop a hill with view to the entire city. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva since 200 B.C. but photography is not allowed, so I can only show you some images from the gardens and school children playing around.

Buenos días! Por fin tengo las fotos del viaje, comenzamos la ruta de Kashmir en Srinagar, recorriendo el lago Nagil y el Dal a bordo de una shikara mientras damos sorbitos a una taza de kava contemplando el atardecer...

Good morning! Finally I got the pictures, we started the tour at Srinagar, Kashmir, taking a ride on Nagil and Dal lakes while we sipped a glass of kava and watched the sunset from the shikara...

Estas vacaciones he estado de viaje por el norte de la India, pero antes de dirigirme a los Himalayas hice una paradita en la ciudad que un día fue mi hogar, Pune, para reunirme con amigos y recordar viejos tiempos.

This holidays I’ve been on a road trip in the north of India, but before heading to the Himalayas I spent a few days at a place I used to call home, Pune, to meet some good friends and remember old times.

Cuando el reloj marque las 5 yo estaré, probablemente, tomándome un masala chai con Parle G en alguna cuneta india. Pero en Europa el té lleva mucho más ceremonial que aquí. Con leche, azúcar o limón, puedes tomarlo como quieras, pero has de estar impecable!

At 5 o'clock I'll be having masala chai with Parle G at some roadside stall in India. But in Europe tea time is a whole ceremony. Have it with milk, sugar or lemon, but you better wear your best outfit!
