Exams keep on going, some better than others, but I survived chemistry, which was my biggest concern. Farewell to the moles, I hope you enjoy yourselves linking up, dissolving or whatever it is you do.
And even though we are extremely busy, we've managed to go to the SIMM, where they exposed some selected items of this course, including my skirt Lotus!
Primarios, secundarios, CMYK, RGB, RYB, arcoiris, Goethe, Newton, Kandinsky, Kurosawa, Tanizaki y Dorothy…
Expounding on color is one of those thing which only people with a lot of time off can afford.
Primary, secondary colors, CMYK, RGB, RYB, rainbows, Goethe, Newton, Kandinsky, Kurosawa, Tanizaki y Dorothy… Western countries suffer from chromophobia, India is so colorful it’d make a blind man confused, white lovers and minimalism… so, what if the first photographs would had been in white and camel instead of black and white??? Would minimalism then be a giant butterscotch icecream?
It’s a grey Sunday, of those in January. It’s cold and rains a little.
It’s one of those grey Sundays to stay on the couch with a blanket and a hot chocolate.
It’s one of those Sundays when the only suitable thing to do seems to be listening to Simon & Garfunkel and the sound of silence.
At the beginning of the week I attended a tribute to Elio Berhanyer at the UPM auditorium. Meeting this great designer who started from zero and made it to Spanish design top was a pleasure, as well as listening to his touching and inspiring story, which proves how talent can overcome in adversity.
Moreover, the event acknowledged the importance of fashion to this university, which has always been associated to industries and engineering.
Yesterday was the last day of the semester, and therefore the deadline for different projects. It’s nice seeing how an idea develops and becomes a reality: A pyjama, a crinoline with its proper dress and a volume skirt inspired by an architecture work are the first creations of the year.
These are the pics of my skirt, inspired by the Lotus Temple in Delhi. The piece can be transformed by opening the petals.
It’s been a freezing weekend, but the sun was irresistible. I’ve found the perfect solution; a maxi pullover to keep me warm, so I took a break from art history and stitching and went outside to get some fresh air and start the week in a good mood!
Sugar Lane is back, but not to rediscover India. Now i’m writting as a fashion design student.
I might not speak about colorful festival, water and power cuts, amazing food, crazy traffic nor cosmopolitans with good friends. Fashion is much more frivolous than that, or that is what the World thinks.
A fashion design student, as they say (in some far far away land), sketches beautiful models, stitches up lovely dresses and carries Vogue under her arm. Truth is in Madrid is not as fabulous as it sounds, the only thing we carry under our arm is a A2 size folder which complicates travelling in public transport a lot, raw cotton material and no Vogue at all.
But I use to read Vogue every single month; up till the moment I started with these studies. Now I’m too busy trying to understand what the hell a “mol” is, that word has always been a synonym of shopping (as in shopping “mall”) but now it happens to be the amount of substance contained in 6.02214179(30)×1023 entities of something… Which something? Well, something you can find on the periodic table… if you find it, please, let me know!
So fashion students “bond” but no fashion garments, we make ionic bonds. And we learn to represent architecture systems; I guess we are at the polytechnic for a reason. We expound upon colors from an Aristotelian and platonic points of view, sometimes we even include poor Dorothy and her red shoes in such a mess. We analyze Alexander army strategies and every single stone that a Cluniac monk decided to assemble, cause we all know how well they dressed… And well, yes, we sketch lovely designs from time to time, what keep us going on.
