DIY Deco: Moroccan Lanterns

By Sugar Lane - Friday, February 07, 2014

Valentines Day is coming, so today's DIY is a deco idea for that special day, candles are the perfect element for a romantic time. We are recycling glass jars to make exotic candle holders or moroccan inspiration lanterns. You have to select jam, beans, tomato sauce or any other jars, choose the ones with a special shape or edges, ready?

Necesitas / You need:

  • Botes de cristal / Glass jars
  • Velas pequeñas / Tea candles
  • Pintura para cristal / Glass paint
  • Pintura en relieve dorada o plateada / Golden or silver dimensional paint
  • Pincel o brocha pequeña / Paint brush
  • Cuerda / Cord
  • Quitaesmaltes y algodón / Nail polish remover and cotton
  • Secador de pelo / Hairdryer

1. Comprueba que las velas caben en los botes / Check the size of the jars is ok for the tea candles

2. Calienta las etiquetas de los botes con un secador para quitarlas sin que se rompan / Heat the jar stickets with a hairdryer and remove them smoothly

3. Utiliza el quitaesmaltes si hay restos de pegamento / Use the nail polish remover on remaining glue

4. Anuda un cordón en la boca del bote, puedes hacerle un asa para luego colgarlo / Tie a cord around the top, you can even make a handle so you can hang it

5. Pinta el cordón de dorado o plateado / Paint the cord golden or silver

6. Empieza a decorar con la pintura en relieve siguiendo la forma del bote / Start decorating with the dimensional paint following the jar shape

7. Sigue decorando hasta que consigas el resultado deseado, cuanto más complicado sea el diseño, mejor quedará al encenderlo / Carry on with the design, the more complicated is your pattern, the more beautiful it will look once you lit the candle

8. Cuando esté seco empieza a pintar el bote por dentro con el color elegido. Primero pinta las partes curvas y después el resto del bote de abajo hacia arriba / Once it's dry start painting inside the jar with the chosen color. First the curvy parts and then the rest of the jar, bottom to top.

9. Termina de pintar por dentro y deja secar 24 horas / Finish the inside and let dry 24hrs

10. Coloca las velas y enciéndelas / Put the candles inside and lit them up

A disfrutar de iluminación nueva! / Enjoy your new lights !
