DIY Decor: Bottled plant

By Sugar Lane - Monday, January 25, 2016

Good morning! Today we're starting the week with a decorative DIY, really practical when watering plants it's not your thing! We are recycling a wine bottle to transform it into a self-watering pot. The tricky thing is cutting the bottle properly, it might need a few tries or you might get an uneven cut, but it's worth a try!

Necesitas / You need:
  • Una botella (o varias) de vidrio / One (or many) glass bottles
  • Cordón de algodón / Cotton string
  • Alcohol
  • Un mechero / A lighter
  • Papel de cocina / Kitchen paper
  • Una planta pequeña / A small plant
  • Un cubo grande con agua y hielo / A big bucket with water and ice

2. Empapa el cordón en alcohol / Dip the string in alcohol

3. Ata la cuerda a la botella un cm por debajo de donde quieras cortar / Tie the string one cm under the line where you want to cut

4. Préndele fuego a toda la cuerda y en cuanto se apague sumérgela en el cubo con agua y hielo hasta que se parta / Set the string on fire and once it stops drown it into the ice and water bucket, until it breakes

Dry it and make sure the cut is clean and the edges don't cut. You have plenty of ideas to cut it on YouTube

6. Dale la vuelta a la mitad de arriba y métela en la de abajo / Turn the upper half upside down and put it in the lower half.

8. Corta un círculo de papel de cocina del tamaño del culo de la botella / Cut a paper circle the size of the bottle bottom

9. Introduce el círculo en la mitad superior de la botella, dejando los cabos de cordón por encima / Put the circle in the upper half and leave the cord ends on top

10. Llena la mitad de abajo de agua / Fill the lower half with water

It will absorb the water it needs and you'll only have to refill it from time to time.

A disfrutar de maceta nueva ! / Enjoy your new plant !
