DIY: Leather Bucket Bag

By Sugar Lane - Friday, November 11, 2016

Today I'm showing you a DIY that seems complicated, but it is way easier than it looks. You'll get a leather bag that will become your best friend, I like it so much that I've made two in different colors! It's super light, you can hang it properly closed and you can carry all you need inside, as you can make it in any size! You don't need a special sewing machine, you can do it with a normal one with a leather needle, if the leather it's not too thick!

Necesitas / You need:
  • Piel / Leather
  • Tijeras / Scissors
  • Metro / Measuring tape
  • Sacabocados / Leather Hole Punch
  • Hilo / Thread
  • Remaches de botón / Button studs
  • Lápiz / Pencil

1. Corta un trozo de 55x25cm y otro de 9x18cm para la base / Cut a piece of 55x25cm and another one of 9x18cm for the bottom

2. Cose el lado más largo a los cuatro lados de la base, por el revés y empezando por la mitad del lado de 9cm / Stitch the longer side to the 4 sides of the bottom, starting in the middle of the 9cm side

3. Cose el lateral del bolso, también del revés / Stitch the bag side, inside-out

5. Haz los agujeros / Make the holes

6. Marca los otros 6 agujeros al otro lado del bolso / Mark 6 more holes on the other side

7. Haz los otros 6 agujeros / Make the other 6 holes

8. Corta 4 tiras, 2 de 50x2cm y 2 de 70x2cm / Cut 4 leather strips, 2 of 50x5 and 2 of 70x2

9. Empareja las tiras de la misma medida por el revés y cóselas juntas por los bordes / Pair the same measures strips and stitch them together on the edges

10. Recorta los bordes / Cut the edges

11. Dobla una tira de 2x85cm y cósela uniendo los laterales / Fold a 2x85cm strip and stitch the edges together

12. Recorta el borde / Cut the edge

13. Corta dos trozos de 6cm de la tira y forma 2 anillos con ellos / Cut 2 pieces of 6cm from the strip and make 2 rings

14. Coloca un anillo en el estremo de la tira de 50cm y agujerea / Insert a ring in the 50cm strip end and  make a hole

15. Une con un remache, introduce el otro anillo, haz un agujero a 10cm de distancia y coloca otro remache / Join together with a button stud, insert the other ring, make a hole 10cm away from the other one and put the second stud

Make 2 holes in the 70cm strip, 10cm away from each other, and make a small cut in each them

You need the long strip with the holes and the shorter one with the studs and rings

18. Cose las tiras por el otro extremo a los laterales del bolso / Stitch the strips other ends to the sides of the bag

19. Introduce la tira fina por los agujeros del bolso, empezando por el centro / Insert the thin strip in the bag holes, starting with the one in the middle

20. Ciérralo frunciendo con un lazo / Close it tight with a bow
