Buenos días! Hoy os llevo de excursión a Alexandria, una encantadora ciudad a orillas del rio Potomac. En la era colonial fue un puerto de comercio y ahora su casco antiguo es una zona estupenda para pasear, llena de restaurantes y tiendas de antigüedades, empezamos?
Good morning! Today I'm taking you to Alexandria, a charming town by the Potomac river. It was an important port during the Colonial era and now the Old Town is a lovely place to walk, with many restaurants and antique shops, shall we?
Comenzamos la visita en el Waterfront, con sus pantalanes llenos de barquitos.
We start the visit at the Waterfront, with cute boats all over.
Muy cerca está Torpedo Factory, un centro que reúne estudios de diferentes artistas y artefactos de lo mas curiosos.
Nearby we find Torpedo Factory, an art center with many artists studios and unique pieces inside.
Paseamos por King Street, la calle principal, y nos quedamos a comer en uno de los muchos restaurantes.
We walk along King Street, the main street there, and have lunch in one of its many restaurants.
El ayuntamiento está en la Market Square, que los sábados se convierte en un mercado de productos locales.
The City Hall is on Market Square, which hosts a farmers market every Sunday.
La Casa de Carlyle es ahora un museo que nos cuenta cómo vivía el mercader John Carlyle a mitad del s. XVIII.
Carlyle House has been turned into a museum which shows how John Carlyle lived in around 1750.
En aquella época dormían en camas con un poco de inclinación porque creían que era mejor para la circulación.
They used to sleep in a leaning bed cause they thought it was better for blood circulation.
El retrato de su madre preside el dormitorio.
The portrait of his mother was in front of the bed.
El salón de verde servía para recibir a invitados y ofrecerles algo de beber.
They used to receive guests and offer them a drink in the green room.
El gran salón conserva las paredes de madera y los labrados techos.
The great room has the original wood walls and carved details.
También hay una reproducción de un vestido de Sarah, la primera mujer de John Carlyle, y otra de la transformación que su hija le hizo para adaptarlo a la moda de su época.
There is also a copy of a dress owned by Sarah, John Carlyle first wife, and another of the same dressed updated by her daughter.
Y en otra habitación se pueden ver los materiales y técnicas de construcción, que han permitido que la mansión sobreviva y pueda conservarse hasta nuestros días.
In the last room you can see the materials and techniques they used used to build the mansion, which helped preserving it until today.
Seguimos paseando por King Street, con tiendas encantadoras y muchos objetos vintage.
We keep walking on King Street, along its charming shops, filled with vintage items.
Al final de la calle, detrás de la estación de tren está el monumento masónico a George Washington, inspirado en el faro de Alejandría.
At the end of the street, behind the train station, it's the George Washington Masonic Memorial, inspired by Alexandria lighthouse.
