Fatehpur Sikri is 35 km away from Agra, a city built by the Mughal emperor Akbar, which had to be abandoned after a few years due to the lack of water. The phantom city area is almost intact and the visit is quite curious...

Buland Darwaza is the magnificent entrance to the busy religious area, and it is the highest door in the World, with 54 meters. The wood door is covered with horseshoes has offers to get good luck. The dome is full of huge honeycombs and nests.

The Jama Masjid mosque hosts muslim prayers everyday.

The King's Gate is another access to the religious area, with tombs everywhere.

Salim Chisthi's Tomb is a white marble mausoleum, with intricate jalis in every wall.

The civil area, much more quiet than the religious one, has open spaces, meeting halls, gardens and the palaces of Akbar's family.

Everything is built in local sandstone and Mughal style, but includes geometric decorations, crosses, flowers and even animals without the head, as muslims can't represent them.

The Panch Mahal with its 5 floors and 176 columns is the most outstanding structure, one of the palaces for his wives, which might have had delicate jali walls that didn't survive.

The emperor Akbar was muslim, became vegetarian because of Jainism and among his wives there was a hindu and a christian, with specially decorated palaces for each of them.

By the parking lot there's a small bazar with souvenirs and typical characters.

LO MEJOR/THE BEST: La incredible convivencia de religiones presentes en toda la arquitectura  / The unbelievable coexistence of different religions, all present in architecture

LO PEOR/THE WORST: El agobio de guias y vendedores que te persiguen insistentemente  en la zona religiosa / The hectic guides and sellers who go after you at the religious area.
